 PHMSA’s Role in Damage Prevention

s a non-profit stakeholder- driven organization, the Damage Prevention Council of Texas has traditionally relied
on event sponsorships and corporate donations to help meet our mission “to facilitate underground utility & pipeline damage prevention, promote best practices, and contribute toward public safety and environmental protection through stakeholder education and communication.” When I accepted the program manager position in early 2020, it was immediately apparent that DPC would require additional funding if we were to expand our outreach beyond regional events. My research
led me to the Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and their Technical Assistance Grant, or TAG. Reviewing the eligibility criteria, I quickly surmised that the TAG was tailor-made for organizations like DPC of Texas, specifically nonprofit organizations
